QUETTA (Kashmir English): Chief Minister Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, welcomed the court’s verdict in the Gwadar Raaji Muchi case, in which Mahrang Lango and a fellow activist were sentenced to life imprisonment.

An anti-terrorism court in Quetta today found Mahrang, chief organiser of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, and another group leader guilty in a case involving the death of FC personnel during a protest in Gwadar in 2024.

After completing the hearing, the court announced the verdict, handing life sentences to Mahrang and Sibghatullah.

In a statement on X, the chief minister said that “after a two-year legal battle, the son of Balochistan, Shaheed Shabbir Baloch, finally got justice from the court”.

“He was stoned to death by angry BYC protesters led by Mahrang Lango while on duty in Gwadar city,” he wrote.

Bugti noted that the court’s order has proved that the Balochistan government’s stance was correct, that those “who take the law into their own hands, promote violence, and target state officials in the name of peaceful protest are actually facilitators of terrorism”.

He expressed solidarity with the family of Shaheed Shabbir Baloch and vowed that the state would continue its campaign against terrorism and its facilitators. “The Balochistan government assured that the blood of the martyr will not be allowed to go in vain,”  he stated.

“The state war against terrorists, their sympathizers, facilitators, and supporting elements in Balochistan will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated,” the statement concluded.

Anwaar ul Haq Kakar’s statement

Former Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar also reacted to the verdict, describing it as “a victory of accountability over impunity.”

“Justice is not selective. It shouldn’t be. Today’s sentencing in the Gwadar Raji Muchi case is not a victory of the state over dissent; rather, a victory of accountability over impunity,” he wrote in a post on X.

Kakar argued that those who orchestrate violence, masquerading as peaceful activists, cannot shield themselves further behind civil society.

Kakar added that Pakistan would continue to protect all of its citizens and uphold the rule of law, emphasizing that accountability remains essential for maintaining public order and security.
