MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Inspector General of Police Azad Kashmir, Captain (retd) Liaquat Ali Malik, has paid tribute to the sacrifices of police martyrs and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of the people and maintaining lasting peace in the region.
Addressing a gathering, the AJK IGP spoke about the mistreatment of the family of Aqib Shaheed and called on religious scholars to speak to the martyr’s father about what happened when he went to collect his son’s body.
“I ask all the great scholars to come and interview the father of Aqib Shaheed, who went to collect his son’s body and where was he kidnapped along with his family and taken away?” Malik said.
He said that the martyr’s father was stripped, tortured and later sent to the people participating in the sit-in. He further said that the body of Aqib Shaheed, who was martyred while performing his duty, was not handed over to his family for four days.
The IGP said Aqib was injured and that his ambulance was not allowed to leave the area. “Aqib Shaheed breathed his last inside the ambulance,” he said.
Paying tribute to the fallen police personnel, Malik said the sacrifices of martyrs could not be repaid through words and would always remain alive in the hearts of the people.
He said the Azad Kashmir Police would never forget its martyrs or their families and would continue to honour their sacrifices.
Malik reaffirmed that the police would take all possible measures to protect the lives and property of the Kashmiri people, uphold the rule of law and establish lasting peace in Azad Kashmir.
He said the Kashmiri nation had always stood for peace, tolerance, respect and brotherhood, adding that maintaining peace and order in the state remained the police’s top priority.
The IGP stressed that society could only be strengthened through mutual respect and protection of each other’s rights. He said no individual or group should be allowed to promote hatred, division or unrest.
He reiterated that Azad Kashmir Police would continue to perform its duties with determination to protect the public, maintain law and order and promote mutual trust and harmony in society.
