LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has predicted rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms across the province from today (June 16), bringing a pleasant weather change for the residents.
According to PDMA, most districts of the province are likely to receive rain from June 16 to 20.
The authority has issued an alert for thunderstorms, rain and hailstorms across the province.
PDMA has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to take precautionary measures in view of the expected weather system. The PDMA said district administrations must remain alert until June 20.
Northern Punjab weather
According to PDMA spokesperson, rain is likely in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum and Mandi Bahauddin. Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad are also expected to receive rain during the forecast period.
The weather system may bring thunderstorms and strong winds to several districts in upper Punjab.
The PDMA said rain is also expected in Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Layyah and Mianwali.
Rain has also been forecast for Bahawalpur Division, DG Khan, Multan, Khanewal and Lodhran.
Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Kot Addu are also likely to be affected by the weather system.
The authority said Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, Pakpattan and surrounding areas may also receive rain.
Thunderstorms, dust storms and strong winds are expected in different parts of the province. Hailstorms may also occur in some areas, according to the PDMA alert.
The provincial authority has warned of possible urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore and Faisalabad.
It has directed local administrations to remain prepared for emergency situations, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
Officials have been instructed to monitor drainage systems and take timely action to prevent disruption.
PDMA has advised citizens to stay in safe places during lightning, dust storms and strong winds. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during severe weather conditions.
Farmers have also been asked to take precautionary measures while planning agricultural activities in view of the changing weather.
Tourists planning to travel to northern areas have also been advised to take necessary precautions. The PDMA said travellers should check weather updates before departure and avoid risky routes during thunderstorms or heavy rain. In case of any emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
