ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The alleged audio statement of the father of a nine-year-old girl, Hania, who died by police firing in Chakwal, has come to light.
On June 10, personnel of the Punjab Police’s Crime Control Department (CCD) opened fire on a vehicle with a family, mistaking it for that of robbers in Chakwal.
As a result, a minor, Hania, died on the spot while her father, Adeel Ahmed, an Australian national, and her brother, Affan Ahmed, 10, were critically injured. Dr Sidra Khan, the mother of the deceased, who was in the vehicle, remained unhurt.
In a recent audio statement, the girl’s father reportedly said that he had returned to Pakistan with his family after performing Hajj and that they were targeted during a robbery incident on the morning of June 10, when gunfire erupted.
The Prosecutor General of Punjab has taken notice of the case and declared it a high-profile investigation. Authorities have summoned the complete record of the incident for review.
According to sources, Adeel Ahmed’s statement was recorded by a special investigation team at Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi.
As per the probe, investigators have also examined the attendance record of the CCD officer involved in the firing.
Sources said the official weapon allegedly used in the incident has been recovered from the police constable concerned.
Following the completion of the initial investigation, the constable was presented before a court and sent to jail on judicial remand.
A local magistrate has directed investigators to submit the challan on June 26. Bullet casings recovered from the scene have also been sent for forensic examination.
Meanwhile, police claim that the two robbery suspects allegedly involved in the incident were later killed in an encounter.
The suspects were identified as Muhammad Fayyaz and Muhammad Abbas. According to officials, both had criminal records and were wanted in multiple cases.
The incident sparked strong public backlash on social media and drew condemnation from civic circles, which demanded accountability for alleged high-handedness by law enforcement.
