PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): At least seven people lost their lives, and 33 others were injured in separate incidents of roof and wall collapses caused by heavy rain, storms and strong winds in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the past 24 hours.
According to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the casualties were reported from Bannu, Shangla and Mansehra districts, where severe weather conditions caused damage to homes and other structures.
The deceased included two children, four men and one woman, while the injured comprised seven men, 12 women and 14 children. Rescue and relief efforts were launched in the affected areas, and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The PDMA has also warned of an increased risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in the upper regions of the province due to a combination of rising temperatures and rainfall, which could accelerate glacier melting.
In view of the potential threat, instructions have been issued to the deputy commissioners of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Mansehra to remain on high alert and closely monitor vulnerable locations.
The authority cautioned that low-lying areas may face flooding and directed district administrations to ensure continuous surveillance of sensitive sites. Officials have also been instructed to issue timely warnings and arrange evacuations where necessary.
Residents have been advised to avoid riverbanks, rainwater drains and areas with strong water currents, while authorities continue to monitor the weather situation and prepare for any emergency response.
