LAHORE (Kashmir English): Cricketers Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan presented themselves in front of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore on Thursday in relation to the investigation regarding the alleged leaks happening in the dressing room of the Pakistani team during its tour to England.
Both players showed up at the NCCIA Lahore office in reply to the notice issued to them and asked for more time to file their replies. The two cricketers are expected to present their replies in writing, as per sources.
As per reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provided the mobiles of the cricketers to the NCCIA as part of the investigation process, which the agency is likely to analyze.
The NCCIA is expected to analyze the various kinds of information that the agency got from those gadgets. The players were also going to be asked to unlock their phones to help the investigation process.
The investigation aims to identify the processes through which information and materials from the dressing room of the team during the England series were being leaked and whether the matter had any cyber links.
Earlier, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had summoned Pakistan cricketers Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan as part of an investigation into alleged leaks of dressing-room information during the England series, sources said.
Sources said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had retained the mobile phones of the national players and subsequently handed them over to relevant authorities for examination.
Apart from Imam-ul-Haq and Muhammad Rizwan, the agency has also issued notices to another cricketer, directing them to appear at its Lahore office on Friday.
Sources added that Rizwan and Imam will be asked to unlock their mobile phones and will be questioned about the dressing room leaks during the England series. Investigators will examine information retrieved from the devices as part of the inquiry, sources stated.
The development comes after Pakistan suffered defeats in the first two Tests of the ongoing series against England.
Following the loss at Lord’s, the PCB took emergency measures by releasing seven players and two coaches from the squad.
The players released were Rizwan, Imam, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Owais Zafar, and Khurram Shahzad, while head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul were also sent back to Pakistan.
