KARACHI (Kashmir English): The Sindh government on Wednesday restored Saturday as a weekly holiday in all government and private schools across the province.

The Sindh Education Department announced the decision after receiving approval from the chief secretary. Under this revised schedule, teaching activities will take place only from Monday to Friday.

Moreover, the teaching hours will be increased by one hour so that academic activities can continue effectively and the curriculum can be completed on time.

The decision will apply to all public and private educational institutions across Sindh, the spokesperson added.

The Education Department said that the revision was made in view of the implementation of the Sindh government’s austerity measures and the effective use of available resources.

It should be noted that earlier last month, the provincial government announced that all government and private schools across the province will operate six days a week from August 1, with an official notification issued.

“It is hereby notified that all Public & Private Educational Institutions under the Administrative Control of School Education & Literacy Department, Government of Sindh, shall observe a six-day working in the week (Monday to Saturday) with effect from August 1, 2026, till further orders,” read the notification.

The development came almost a week after the reopening of schools following a two-month-long summer vacation, from June 1 to July 31.
