ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Security forces have arrested an armed individual associated with the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) from Rawalakot who recently arrived in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) from abroad.

According to sources, the arrested man is a trained sniper who had recently infiltrated AJK to conduct targeted violent operations. The security forces took timely action and detained him.

In his confession, the operative, identified as Muhammad Abid, admitted to using an M8 rifle to execute ambushes from elevated positions on security personnel, wounding four to five Rangers officials.

“I belong to the armed group of the banned actions committee. Ten to fifteen of us were injured during firing on the Rangers last night,” the arrested miscreant said.

Abid further revealed that an estimated 100 to 150 armed JAAC operatives remain deployed at different places with weapons.

The arrested accused further revealed that he is a trained sniper and was brought from abroad for the same purpose about two weeks ago.

Experts added that the presence of armed elements in the protest of the banned JAAC is proof that there was a prior plan and clear objectives behind this provocation.

“The law enforcement agencies are performing their duties to maintain law and order with utmost patience, responsibility and professionalism.”
