MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has alleged widespread rigging in yesterday’s elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s (AJK) Mirpur division, in which PML-N secured nine seats, while PPP won four seats.
While talking to the media, AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore expressed serious reservations over the election results in the Charhoi, Sehnsa and Nakyal constituencies, raising serious questions about the transparency of the electoral process.
Rathore alleged that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had compromised the electoral process through rigging at several polling stations in Kotli district and urged the Election Commission to take immediate notice.
He said that unilateral stamping was done in the home constituency of PPP AJK President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, while the certain victory of PPP candidate Chaudhry Akhlaq in Sehnsa was turned into defeat.
The premier further claimed that the relevant presiding officers at polling stations in Sehnsa have said that they were held hostage and forced to stamp ballot papers.
He called on the Election Commission to immediately withhold the results of these constituencies and order re-polling at polling stations where allegations of rigging have been made, under the supervision of the Pakistan Army.
