ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A report has emerged that a wounded Afghan Taliban fighter, involved in border aggression against Pakistan, are being treated in the Indian capital, New Delhi, Afghanistan International reported.
The development has intensified concerns about the growing engagement and deeper level of military cooperation between India and the Taliban-led administration in Kabul.
According to the report, an Afghanistan International journalist met the injured Taliban member and his attendants in New Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area. The individual reportedly stated that he was wounded during fighting in Spin Boldak and traveled to India for treatment following approval from Taliban Defence Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid.
The report further said that India stopped issuing regular and electronic visas after the Taliban took control of Kabul in August 2021 (Asad 1400). The country has not fully reopened visa issuance yet, but since 2025, a new visa system for Afghans has been activated.
According to India’s new policy, medical visas, medical attendant visas, business visas, student visas, entry visas, and UN-related visas are available for Afghans; however, obtaining them is not possible for all citizens.
From the time the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021 until today, three Taliban ministers have officially traveled to India: Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister; Nooruddin Azizi, Minister of Industry and Commerce; and Noor Jalal Jalali, Minister of Public Health.
Pakistan’s reaction to the visits of Taliban ministers to India has been predominantly cautious, concerned, and in some cases critical.
India is currently increasing its diplomatic and economic presence in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. From Islamabad’s perspective, this trend is considered a geopolitical rivalry, and it has high sensitivity towards it.
