LONDON (Kashmir English): England fast bowler John Turner, 25, has announced his sudden retirement from professional cricket, ending a five-year career.
John Turner played two One Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals for England in 2024.
However, he has not played a professional match since June last year due to a fractured back.
John Turner had two years left on his contract with Hampshire, while he also had a development contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board until the end of last year.
He said goodbye to cricket, saying that now was the right time to move on to the next challenge in life.
Explaining his decision, Turner said that a series of injuries, especially a stress fracture that kept him off the field for more than a year, had forced him to seriously consider his future as a cricketer and his life outside of cricket.
He said that playing professional and international cricket was always a dream of mine, and representing Hampshire and England was the fulfilment of my childhood dreams.
However, I have decided to retire from cricket and this is certainly one of the most difficult decisions of my life.
John Turner made his first-class debut for Hampshire in 2021. He described the 5 years he spent with the club as the best of his life and thanked the management, coaches, teammates and fans for their overwhelming support.
