MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The people of Pakistan, including the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), are observing Kashmir Black Day today, to mark the 78th anniversary of India’s Illegal Occupation of Kashmir on October 27, 1947.
Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and world over are observing Black Day today (Monday) to draw the world’s attention to the impending catastrophe caused by India’s continued illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has said that October 27 is a black day for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that Kashmiris living on both sides of the ceasefire line and around the world observe October 27 as Black Day and protest vigorously against India’s usurpation of the occupation.
India has been committing serious human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir for the past 77 years.
Rallies and Seminars
Every year, large numbers of peaceful rallies and seminars are conducted in Azad Kashmir to showcase the unwavering support for struggling Kashmiris.
Pakistan’s leadership reaffirms its stance on the Kashmir issue. Diplomatic missions hold special ceremonies to mark the Black Day.
In Azad Kashmir, special programs are being held today in schools and colleges to renew the commitment to support the struggling Kashmiris.
Additionally, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has urged the Kashmiri people to observe Black Day today to sensitize the international community about the urgency of resolving the Kashmir dispute.
Special prayers are also conducted for the peace and freedom of the Indian illegally occupied Kashmiris.
PM and President’s Message
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have once again expressed Pakistan’s unflinching solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.
In their individual messages on Black Day, falling today (Monday), they stated October 27, 1947, was one of the darkest days in history when Indian troops illegally marched into Jammu and Kashmir, starting an occupation full of brutality that continues to this day.
President Asif Ali Zardari stated that generations of Kashmiri people have been subjected to unimaginable oppression under occupation, characterized by brutality, repression, and denial of their right to freedom.
He condemned India’s unilateral and illegal measures of August 5, 2019, to alter the demography of IIOJK. He appealed to the international community, in particular the United Nations, to hold India accountable for serious human rights abuses and ensure the enforcement of UN Security Council resolutions.
In his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that India remains in denial of the inalienable right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination. He denounced India’s repressive laws, such as the jailing of Kashmiri leadership and the restriction of freedom of movement and expression.
He added that Pakistan has always raised the issue of Kashmiri brothers and sisters in front of the world and repeated their slogans of freedom from Indian occupation.
Shehbaz Sharif again asserted that the people of Kashmir are not isolated in their righteous cause, as two hundred and forty million Pakistanis stand strong and steadfastly with them in their quest for self-determination.
History of Kashmir Black Day
It was on October 27, 1947, when Indian troops invaded Jammu and Kashmir and occupied it in total violation of the Partition Plan of the subcontinent and against the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Kashmir Black Day is an annual commemoration by Kashmiris as well as by Pakistanis across the world to mark 27 October as ‘Black Day’.
Every year, the day is marked to express solidarity and support Kashmiri people in their struggle for the right to self-determination.
