TOKYO (Kashmir English): Tokyo police have recently arrested a woman for repeatedly placing and cancelling large numbers of orders at a well-known online store.
According to Japanese media reports, 32-year-old woman, Mayo Yoshida, used fake names and around 230 fraudulent accounts to place more than 2,000 orders on the online store of Japan’s famous anime company, Shueisha.
The orders included toys and products linked to popular anime series such as ‘Naruto’ and ‘One Piece’, with a total value of around 4.3 billion yen, equal to about 2.7 million US dollars or more than 750 million Pakistani rupees.
According to the Police, the woman selected cash-on-delivery as the payment method for all orders.
When the consignments reached her address, she flatly refused to accept the deliveries or pay for them. In some cases, she cancelled the orders even before the items were dispatched.
The unusual activity caused the company a loss of about $47,500 in delivery and courier expenses which prompted the police to spring into action.
