SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): Ahead of Human Rights Day, multiple Hurriyat organizations put up posters across Srinagar and surrounding areas, calling on international human rights bodies to act against serious violations by Indian forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The posters also urged the global community to address the Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Human Rights Day is observed annually on December 10th to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly in 1948, highlighting universal rights like freedom, equality, and dignity, and promoting awareness and action for human rights globally through events, campaigns, and education, with recent themes focusing on everyday essentials and shared responsibilities.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the posters highlighted the plight of jailed leaders, including APHC chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasim Malik, and Aasiya Andrabi, alongside images of homes and properties destroyed by Indian forces.

They called for an immediate end to human rights abuses and political injustices, emphasizing that Kashmiris continue to be deprived of fundamental rights, including the right to self-determination.

The posters also condemned India’s systematic state terrorism, citing the attachment of properties, lands, and homes, as well as termination of Kashmiri employees in occupied Kashmir, and urged the international community to take urgent action to ensure justice.

The campaign coincides with the global observance of Human Rights Day on December 10, marking the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations in 1948.

Posters were also circulated widely on social media platforms including X, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

Muslims under threat in occupied Kashmir, India

The posters underscored the looming threat of genocide against Muslims in IIOJK and India.

They highlighted warnings by international experts, including US-based Genocide Watch, which has repeatedly cautioned that India is moving toward the genocide of Muslims. The posters noted that hate crimes against Muslims have surged under the Modi regime, and the situation in IIOJK has worsened following India’s illegal actions of August 5, 2019.

The Hurriyat organizations urged the UN and other global human rights bodies to act decisively to protect vulnerable Muslim communities in India and IIOJK, emphasizing that the international community must clearly demand that India halt its march toward genocide.
