PMD forecasts more monsoon rains today

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast monsoon rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, and northeastern Balochistan on Tuesday (today).

The department has warned that isolated heavy to very heavy falls could trigger urban flooding, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.

It forecast hot and humid weather is likely to prevail in the southern parts of the country, including most districts of Sindh and Balochistan, where only isolated rain-wind/thundershowers are expected in Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Dera Bugti and adjoining areas.

According to the PMD, heavy rains during Tuesday could inundate low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, the Potohar region, Peshawar and Nowshera.

It further warned that landslides may occur in vulnerable hilly areas of Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Shangla and Abbottabad, as well as Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir during the forecast period.

Heavy monsoon rainfall likely

The Met office also warned that heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs of Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, the Potohar region, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.

As far as Islamabad and adjoining areas are concerned, the PMD said partly cloudy weather with rain, wind and thunderstorms is expected, with isolated heavy downpours likely.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Waziristan.

In Punjab, rain-wind/thundershowers accompanied by isolated heavy falls are likely in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Layyah, Bhakkar and Noorpur Thal, while southern districts are expected to remain hot and humid.

Cloudy weather with rain-wind/thundershowers and isolated heavy rainfall is also forecast for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
