ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a new monsoon system will cause rain showers, thunderstorms, and occasional heavy downpours in certain parts of Pakistan.

This weather pattern is likely to impact Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan. According to the PMD, moderate to heavy rains are anticipated in many areas over the period of time.

In this regard, the PMD forecasted urban flooding in low-lying areas, particularly in major cities. Heavy rains can also cause localised flash floods in sensitive areas.

Moreover, it was strongly recommended that people keep themselves updated about the weather through official channels and refrain from travelling unnecessarily at times of heavy rains. It was also recommended for motorists to drive cautiously due to poor visibility and slippery roads.

In addition, all concerned departments have taken certain measures in advance to cope with any emergency that might occur due to this monsoon system.
