ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s planned visit to Switzerland has been postponed, hours after the United States and Iran electronically signed a peace agreement today, diplomatic sources said.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that the premier had signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in his capacity as mediator.

The statement added that the document had already been signed electronically by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Sources said that the PM’s expected departure was delayed as the Islamabad MOU has already been electronically signed and is now under implementation.

Officials said Islamabad’s role was to deliver an agreed framework, de-escalate the crisis, and create a structured path for implementation, which has been achieved.

In the next phase, both Iran and the US are likely to begin technical talks separately on multiple issues, covering sanctions relief, maritime security, and nuclear-related measures, that are part of the comprehensive MOU, diplomatic sources added.

Earlier today, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei indicated a separate signing ceremony may no longer be required because the agreement has already been executed electronically.

“The Friday meeting was confirmed until a few hours ago, but when it was decided that the presidents of the two sides (Iran and the US) would sign the agreement, it was decided to pause consideration of the Friday meeting for now,” Baghaei said.
