ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Coke Studio’s most popular song from 2022, ‘Pasoori’, has crossed the milestone of 1 billion views on YouTube on Sunday, becoming the first Pakistan-made music video to reach the mark.
The official Coke Studio page confirmed the milestone in an Instagram post, thanking fans for streaming the song, singing along to it, and making it their own.
This duet of Ali Sethi and Shae Gil was released on February 7, 2022. It took only about 4 years and 7 months for this song to cross the 1 billion views mark.
Coke Studio also shared a reel featuring singers Ali Sethi and Shae Gill alongside producers Zulfiqar Khan, also known as Xulfi, and Abdullah Siddiqui.
The artist has thanked the fans who helped push the track to reach the 1 billion mark.
This milestone is not surprising given the continuous popularity of the song, as it was the most-streamed Pakistani song on Spotify in the year of its release and is still both Sethi and Gill’s most-streamed song on the platform, with almost 405 million streams.
Its popularity quickly extended beyond Pakistan, inspiring a wave of covers across Pakistan, India, and elsewhere. The song was later featured on the soundtrack of Disney’s Ms Marvel, whose lead character is Pakistani-American.
Pasoori also caught the attention of Bollywood, with singer Arijit Singh releasing his own rendition of the track. The move drew backlash from fans, who accused the Indian film industry of attempting to co-opt the song.
