ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government is likely to lift the ban on new domestic liquefied natural gas (LNG) connections in September as Qatar is expected to resume normal LNG supplies after the expiry of the force majeure.
The Petroleum Division sources said that Qatar had imposed force majeure on LNG exports until the end of August 2026, affecting global LNG supplies, including shipments to Pakistan.
The restriction was imposed following attacks on LNG production facilities during the recent US-Iran conflict.
Sources added that the ban on Qatar’s LNG connections is likely to be lifted as soon as the force majeure ends, and the ban on domestic LNG connections may end by September.
Officials said the government is considering restoring new domestic LNG connections once the force majeure ends and LNG supplies from Qatar improve.
It should be noted that domestic LNG connections were stopped in May after the suspension of LNG supply.
