An outage started earlier today, affecting web and mobile users with error messages and login issues worldwide, including Pakistan. The company, OpenAI, said that they are investigating the outage, but the cause and resolution timeline are unclear.
On its status website, the company wrote, “Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are continuing to investigate the issue.”
OpenAI’s image generator Sora is also experiencing problems. Users are seeing “error in the message stream” when they try to prompt the AI. “We are continuing to investigate,” the company said regarding the problems with Sora.
The reports on the outage tracking site DownDetector went high at around 1:30 pm (PST). The second spike has only grown as ChatGPT users in Europe, North America, and Australia continue to report problems.
The DownDetector website shows that hundreds of complaints about error messages have been pouring in, with 93% of them related to ChatGPT.
As OpenAI’s several services are down, students and other users are turning to alternatives, including Tom’s Guide and DeepSeek, Claude, and Google’s Gemini.
