BARCELONA (Kashmir English): Argentina star footballer Lionel Messi has become the first player to win the Golden Boot in two consecutive seasons, securing the title of top scorer for the current season with 26 goals.
According to the international news agency Reuters, Lionel Messi reached another historic milestone in Major League Soccer (MLS), becoming the first footballer in the league’s history to win the Golden Boot in two back-to-back seasons.
Delivering an outstanding performance this season, Messi scored a total of 26 goals to emerge as the league’s top scorer; he had previously won the Golden Boot last season by scoring 29 goals.
With this achievement, Messi has also become the sixth player in MLS history to win the Golden Boot twice. However, he now holds the unique record of being the only player to secure this honor in two consecutive seasons.
In the race for the Golden Boot, FC Dallas’s Petar Musa finished second with 22 goals, while Nashville SC’s Sam Surridge placed third with 21 goals.
Lionel Messi also maintained his record of scoring goals exclusively from open play (without penalties), netting 29 goals in 2025 and 26 in 2026.
Consequently, he became the second player in MLS history to score at least 25 goals in two consecutive seasons, bringing his total tally across both seasons to 55.
Before Messi, the only other player to achieve this feat was Josef Martínez, who scored a combined total of 58 goals during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
