Fact Check: Kabul “ Omid hospital strike” claims fake and misleading

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Fact Check Unit of Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has debunked yet another systematic propaganda campaign by the Afghan Taliban.

According to a recent report, the Afghan Taliban had claimed that the Pakistan Army had targeted “Omid Hospital”, but the facts have completely disproved this claim.

Investigations have revealed that the hospital that was claimed to have been targeted is located several kilometers away from the actual site of the attack, i.e., “Camp Phoenix”.

The real target of the Pakistan Army was a military location where a large cache of weapons and ammunition of the terrorists was located, which was targeted with utmost precision last night.

The images received clearly show that Umeed Hospital is a multi-storey building, while the targeted area was the infrastructure of the terrorists, consisting of containers.

AI-Generated Videos

Experts and analysts have questioned the ridiculous claim that if it was indeed a drug rehab center, why was it set up inside a military camp where deadly weapons and ammunition are stored?

This contradiction has exposed the Taliban’s narrative. According to sources, after the facts came to light and several fact checks were conducted, the specific post and video have been quietly deleted from the official social media account of the Afghan Taliban.

Experts believe that the video was probably created by artificial intelligence (AI) that could not withstand the fact checks conducted on scientific and technical grounds.

Afghan Taliban Used Old Images

The claim circulated by the Afghan Taliban spokesperson using an old image to allege recent casualties is a clear case of deliberate disinformation aimed at misleading public perception.

The image being presented as evidence of a recent incident is, in fact, from May 2023 and was originally shared by the Afghan Taliban Interior Ministry at that time, exposing the falsehood of the current claim.

Recycling outdated visuals to support present-day allegations reflects a calculated attempt to fabricate a misleading narrative and create confusion regarding actual events.

Such actions undermine credibility and highlight a pattern of information manipulation through misrepresentation of archival material as current evidence.

Taliban Themselves Set Rehab on Fire: Afghan Journalist

Young Afghan journalist and political analyst Ahmad Sharifzad tweeted a shocking audio message claiming that the Taliban themselves set the Rehab center on fire.

The viral audio message clearly states that the Taliban set themselves on fire to defame Pakistan.

Pakistani jets bombed the Air Force of the Taliban’s MoD and the Procurement Directorate of the Tainan’s MoD (former U.S. Phoenix Camp). We saw it with our own eyes, Ahmad added.

Afghan Taliban Fake Claims

According to the Afghan media, at least 400 people were killed and 250 injured in a Pakistani air strike on a hospital in Kabul, the Afghan Taliban said, while Pakistan rejected the claims.

The 2,000-bed Omid Hospital, a substance-abuse rehabilitation center in the Afghan capital, was reportedly hit in a Pakistani air strike late on March 16.

However, Pakistan has categorically rejected the claims and has provided proof that no direct strike was made that could have damaged the hospital, and why would there be a Rehab hospital located in the ammunition area, exposing the Afghan Taliban’s fake lies.

The claim is therefore rejected as false and deceptive, intended to distort facts, mislead audiences, and serve propaganda objectives by projecting a fabricated version of events.
