BOSTON (Kashmir English): Norway thumped Iraq 4-1 in their Group I opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Boston Stadium on Tuesday.
Erling Haaland scored the opener in the 29th minute and capitalizing on a goalkeeper error for his second in the 43rd minute.
Aymen Hussein briefly equalized for Iraq with a header in the 39th minute.
Norway, however, added two more goals in the second half through Leo Østigård and Kristian Thorstvedt.
Iraq also scored an own-goal in stoppage time to seal Norway the win.
Earlier World Cup game
In an earlier match, France defeated Senegal 3:1 in the Group I match.
The next match would be played in Group J between Argentina and Algeria.
