Five passenger trains to operate under private sector

LAHORE (Kashmir English): Pakistan Railways has decided to hand over the commercial management of five passenger trains to private sector partners under agreements worth Rs10.75 billion.

The trains include Karakoram Express, Awam Express, Millat Express, Mianwali Passenger and Narowal Passenger.

These trains will operate under public-private partnership arrangements aimed at providing better services for passengers.

Pakistan Railways previous earnings

Pakistan Railways had been earning around Rs8 billion from these five trains before outsourcing them.

The railway authorities also hoped that they will get more than Rs10 billion in revenue in the next financial year through the outsourcing of freight trains.

Federal Minister for Railways said Pakistan Railways is expected to generate more than Rs100 billion in revenue in 2026 for the first time in its history.

He said efforts were under way to improve the railway system adding that further positive developments were expected in the coming weeks and months.

Pakistan Railways termed the move as the most successful initiative in terms of outsourcing in its history, with the management of five trains transferred to private partners under agreements valued at Rs10.75 billion.
