ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday issued an alert for floods in mountain streams, rainwater nullahs, and rivers across many parts of the country.
“Due to the expected rains, there is a possibility of a sudden increase in water flow in rainwater channels and rivers for the period from July 6 to 10, 2026,” the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) of NDMA said in a press release.
The NDMA said heavy rainfall is predicted in the northern and northeastern regions from July 6 to 10 due to the second monsoon spell and the westerly winds.
The disaster authority predicted flooding in the Indus River, Yasin River, Ghizer River, Kelek River, Mintaka River, Daril River, and local streams in Gilgit-Baltistan.
“In Azad Kashmir, the flow of water is expected to increase significantly in the Neelum River, Poonch River, Jhelum River, Mahal River, and their tributaries,” the hydrological situation alert stated.
Furthermore, it said that in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the water flow is expected to increase in the Lothko River, Ashirai Khor, Daral River, Alai Khor, Garai Khor, Khan Khor, Palas River, Siren River, Dhor River, Jundi River, Bara River, Gomal River, Tank Zam, and local streams.
“In northeastern Punjab, another Phalko Nallah in Sialkot, the Ben, Basantar, and Dag Nallahs in Narowal, while local flooding is possible in the mountain rain streams of Dera Ghazi Khan.”
In addition, the flow of water is also expected to increase in the rain streams of the Zhob River, Kangri River, Barkhan, Loralai, Mastung, and Kalat in Balochistan.
Flood situation
The hydrological situation alert stated that water flow is expected to increase in the Swat River, Panjkora River, and their tributaries during the next 48 hours.
Moreover, low-level flooding is likely at Nowshera in the Kabul River, and water flow may reach 70,000 cusecs.
It also said that low-level flooding is likely in the upper areas of the Tarbela Dam in the Indus River, with water flow expected to reach 270,000 cusecs.
“Low-level flooding is expected at Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad in the Chenab River,” it added.
Moreover, a significant increase in water flow is expected in the cross-border nullahs coming from the Pir Panjal Range.
NDMA has directed the concerned agencies to remain alert, keep emergency arrangements complete, and ensure continuous monitoring of sensitive areas.
Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, avoid crossing nullahs and rainwater streams, and follow the instructions of the local administration, it stated.
