ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The last supermoon of 2025, known as the Cold Moon, can be seen across Pakistan’s skies tonight, creating a stunning celestial display visible to viewers nationwide.
The moon reached its closest point to Earth this evening, causing it to appear significantly larger and brighter than an ordinary full moon. A supermoon can appear up to 14% larger and nearly 30% brighter, making it one of the most striking astronomical sights of the year.
Earlier, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) said that the final supermoon of the year, known as the Cold Moon, will be visible across Pakistan tonight and tomorrow night.
It marks the third consecutive supermoon of the year and the last supermoon of 2025, the commission said, encouraging the public, astronomy enthusiasts, students, and families to observe this natural spectacle.
“No special equipment is required; the supermoon will be easily visible to the naked eye, provided the skies remain clear,” it added.
The moon rose at 4:58 pm on December 4 with 99% brightness. SPARCO said that this supermoon will be about 7.9% larger and 15% brighter than a normal full moon.
The distance between the Earth and the Moon will be 357,218 km on December 4 and 5. According to Sparco, a supermoon usually occurs 3 to 4 times a year, and this scene can be easily seen without any special equipment in clear weather.
The first of the three supermoons lit up the country’s skies on October 7, followed by another on November 5, called the Beaver Supermoon, which was “the closest, biggest, and brightest full moon of the year,” as per the space agency.
