ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Polling is underway for three Kashmiri refugee constituencies in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with voters arriving at polling stations to cast their ballots. Political parties have established election camps outside polling stations to assist voters throughout the polling process.
To ensure peaceful polling, around 4,000 Rawalpindi Police personnel have been deployed across the two cities. Additional security has also been arranged at 18 sensitive polling stations under the supervision of the election administration.
According to the Election Commission’s directives, unauthorized persons are prohibited from entering polling stations, while polling staff have been barred from using mobile phones inside polling premises to maintain transparency.
Voters have been instructed to carry their original Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to cast their votes.
Police officials and Election Commission staff are present at polling stations to guide voters and facilitate the voting process.
According to official figures, LA-44 Valley-5 has around 7,000 registered voters, LA-43 Valley-4 has approximately 3,500 voters, while LA-39 Jammu-6 has nearly 37,000 registered voters.
A total of 34 candidates are contesting across the three refugee constituencies. Polling began peacefully, although voter turnout remained relatively slow during the early morning hours.
