MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and President of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) AJK Sardar Tanveer Ilyas on Sunday announced the boycott of the third phase of elections in the region after facing a crushing defeat in LA-25 Neelum-I polls today.
In LA-25, PML-N candidate Shah Ghulam Qadir secured victory, while PPP’s Mian Abdul Waheed came in second place, according to the unofficial results.
Speaking after the election results with a local digital media outlet, Tanveer Ilyas rejected the outcome and accused the PML-N of rigging the elections.
He held Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore responsible for what he described as injustice against the people of Azad Kashmir.
Moreover, the former AJK prime minister demanded the establishment of an impartial commission to investigate the allegations and said that he did not accept the reported election results.
The IPP AJK president said his decision to boycott the third phase was based on his allegations regarding the credibility of the electoral process.
Tanveer Ilyas had contested the LA-25 Neelum-I constituency on the IPP ticket. He had also filed nomination papers from Central Bagh, Pachiot and Rawalakot City constituencies.
