TEHRAN (Kashmir English): Iran has laid emphasis on ending the war with the US and Israel rather than extending the ceasefire in 14-point proposal it sent to the US via Pakistan on Sunday in response to the US proposal of a ceasefire for two months.

According to the Iranian media, the new proposal seeks guarantees that the US and Israel would not resort to aggression against the Islamic republic again; US would withdraw forces from Iran’s periphery; end the naval blockade; unfreeze Iran’s assets; lift sanctions; ensure payment of reparations, agree to a new mechanism governing the Strait of Hormuz; and an end of war on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Iran is presently awaiting US response

Iran is presently awaiting the US response to its proposals.

The Islamic Republic has made it clear that all matters should be settled within 30 days.

The US had previously presented Iran with a 15-point framework demanding, among other things, the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran’s nuclear programme.

The US president had told reporters on Friday that he was unimpressed with Iran’s proposal thus far.

“They want to make a deal, I’m not satisfied with it, so we’ll see what happens,” he said Friday.

Washington has repeatedly said it will not end the war, which has led to the deaths of thousands of people, without a deal that prevents Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

The US and Israel had launched attacks against Iran on February 28 that led to an unprecedented hike in the petroleum products prices besides hindering the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
