DOHA: Iran has launched six missiles towards the United States’ bases in Qatar, Axios reported, citing an Israeli official. Axios had earlier reported that Iran was preparing to fire missiles at the bases.

Furthermore, explosions have also been heard over the Qatari capital Doha, a Reuters witness reports on Monday. Al Jazeera has also reported explosions as well as flares in the capital’s skies.

In addition to that, Qatar has temporarily suspended air traffic across the country, and some Western embassies have advised their citizens there to shelter in place after Iran threatened retaliation for US strikes on its nuclear sites, AFP reports.

“The competent authorities announce the temporary suspension of air traffic in the country’s airspace, as part of a set of precautionary measures taken based on developments in the region,” the foreign ministry said.

Iranian media have reported that a missile operation called “Herald of Victory” has been launched against US bases in Iraq and Qatar. Iran’s Armed Forces say they hit the American-run al-Ubeid base in response to US aggression, Iranian Press TV reported.

Iran’s top security body says armed forces used the same number of bombs that the US had used in attacking Iran, Reuters reported.

Following the attacks on Al Udeid Base, Qatar condemned the aggression, calling it a blatant violation of its sovereignty and international law. Doha reserves the right to respond proportionally. The missiles were intercepted, and no casualties were reported. Qatar urges an end to military escalation and a return to dialogue.
