WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): U.S. President Donald J. Trump has said that a planned military action against Iran has been put on hold following diplomatic intervention from Pakistan’s top leadership.

In a statement, Trump said the decision came after what he described as a request from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, urging Washington to allow space for a unified proposal from Iranian authorities.

He stated that Iran’s government was “seriously fractured” and said the United States had been asked to delay any attack until Tehran’s leadership and representatives present a consolidated position.

Trump further said he had directed U.S. forces to maintain a blockade posture while remaining “ready and able,” and confirmed that the ceasefire-like pause would continue until further diplomatic discussions are concluded.

The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions, though no official confirmation has been issued by Pakistani or Iranian authorities.

Trump says US is ‘going to end up with great deal’ with Iran

Earlier, President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he thinks the US will end up with a great deal with Iran to end the weeks-long war, adding that Washington is in a strong negotiating position.

“We’re going to end up with a great deal. I think they have no choice… We’re in a very, very strong negotiating position,” Trump told broadcaster CNBC during an interview, when asked what he expected from a second round of talks with Iran

“We’ve taken out their Navy, we’ve taken out their Air Force, we’ve taken out their leaders,” Trump was quoted as saying.

“We’ve taken out their leaders, frankly, which does complicate things in one way, but these leaders are much more rational,” Trump said.

“It is regime change, no matter what you want to call it, which is not something I said I was going to do, but I’ve done it indirectly.”

Answering a question on whether he would extend the ceasefire to allow time for peace talks, the president said that he does not want to extend the ceasefire. “Well, I don’t want to do that,” he said.

Trump said the US would resume its attacks on Iran if a deal is not struck with Tehran soon, Reuters reports.

“I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with. But we’re ready to go. I mean, the military is raring to go,” he told CNBC.
