NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): More than a year after Operation Sindoor, the Indian government has officially revealed the names of the six armed forces personnel who were killed during the military conflict with Pakistan.
In May 2025, about a month after the militant attack in Pahalgam in Indian-occupied Kashmir, New Delhi targeted multiple cities in Pakistan, killing civilians. IN response, Pakistan also carried out defensive and retaliatory operations, named ‘Operation Banyan Marsus’, destroying key military infrastructures and fighter jets in India.
A few days after the conflict, the Pakistani military’s media wing had announced that 11 armed forces personnel were killed in these operations, six of whom belonged to the army and five to the Pakistani air force. They were also awarded military honours in August 2025.
However, until now, New Delhi had not publicly released the identities of its personnel or officially acknowledged the military casualties from the operation.
Earlier, in a speech in parliament, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that no Indian armed forces personnel were harmed in the operation, but his claims have now been refuted.
On 26 June 2026, for the first time, the Indian government revealed the names of military personnel killed during the conflict. A list of six names in this regard has been included in the ‘Roll of Honour’ on the website of the National War Memorial.
The slain military personnel include Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade, Rifleman Sunil Kumar of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (who was awarded the Vir Chakra), Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment, Aviation Technician Mod Murali Naik of 851 Light Regiment, and Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of 237 Field Workshop Company.
Sergeant Surendra Kumar from the Indian Air Force is also on the list, who was posthumously honoured with the Vayu Medal.
According to Indian media, the names of these six personnel will be inscribed on the Tyag Chakra at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
The names of these personnel have been released along with the annual list of ‘armed forces personnel who were killed’ in various military operations during 2025.
