ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has increased the levy on diesel and petrol, absorbing the benefit consumers expected after the decline in international crude oil prices.

The Petroleum Division on Friday notified that petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices will remain unchanged for the next week.

The price of petrol will remain unchanged at Rs299.50 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) will continue to be sold at Rs311.47 per litre, the notification stated.

According to sources, the levy on diesel was increased by Rs 6.57 per liter to Rs 79.54 per liter, fully offsetting the reduction expected in the ex-refinery price.

Furthermore, the Climate Support Levy (CSL) on high-speed diesel remained unchanged at Rs2.50 per litre, the IFEM margin was retained at Rs2.40 per litre, the oil marketing companies’ distribution margin remained at Rs7.87 per litre, and the dealer margin stayed at Rs8.64 per litre.

Similarly, the levy on petrol has been raised by 39 paise per liter to Rs 66.64 per liter, neutralising any potential relief for consumers. In addition, the levy on kerosene has been maintained at Rs 20.36 per liter.

The petrol pricing structure also remained unchanged in other components, with the Climate Support Levy continuing at Rs2.50 per litre, IFEM at Rs2.87 per litre, the distribution margin (including extra margin) at Rs7.87 per litre, and the dealer margin at Rs8.64 per litre.

According to sources, the increase in the levy will be implemented immediately; however, an official notification is likely to be issued in this regard.
