ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Awaam Pakistan Party President Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has expressed his displeasure over the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) delisting his Awaam Pakistan party.

In a letter written to the Chief Election Commissioner, Abbasi expressed reservations over the decision to delist the party and declared it unjustified.

Former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the intra-party elections of the Awaam Pakistan Party were held between March 26 and April 2, in which 12,846 members of the party participated.

According to the letter, the results of the intra-party elections were submitted to the Election Commission on April 6.

The President of Awaam Pakistan stated in the letter that the intra-party elections were conducted in a democratic and transparent manner, while the electoral process was strictly in accordance with the requirements of the Election Act 2017.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi took the stance that all relevant matters and election results have already been presented before the Election Commission by the party, therefore the decision to delist the party is unjustified.

The letter requested the Chief Election Commissioner to schedule a formal hearing to clarify the party stance, so that officials could present their position and relevant documents before the Election Commission.

The President of Awaam Pakistan expressed hope that the Election Commission, after reviewing the party’s stance and records related to intra-party elections, will make an appropriate decision on the matter.
