CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): Google has introduced Gemini 4 Argon, the latest model in its Gemini 4 series, as the company seeks to strengthen its position in the artificial intelligence race against rivals including OpenAI and Anthropic.

However, Google has decided not to make the model available to the general public for now.

According to the company, initial access to Argon will be limited to a selected group of vetted cybersecurity experts and partners.

Google said the phased rollout is aimed at reducing the risk of misuse of advanced AI capabilities, particularly by hackers.

Google Chief AI Architect Koray Kavukcuoglu said in a company blog post that a phased approach is necessary to safely deploy highly capable AI systems.

A Google spokesperson said Argon is larger in scale than the company’s previous state-of-the-art Pro models. The company also claimed that the model has matched advanced rival systems in several coding and cybersecurity benchmarks and outperformed them in some industry tests.

Google did not provide a timeline for when Gemini 4 Argon would become available to general users.

The company has also decided not to release Gemini 3.5 Pro after delays to its previously announced launch. The developments come as Google continues to reorganize its AI operations while OpenAI and Anthropic advance their own AI models.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has previously rejected suggestions that the company is falling behind in the AI race. The company has increasingly highlighted Gemini’s capabilities while also promoting its comparatively lower costs.
