MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Iftikhar Gillani on Wednesday dismissed the reports regarding the change in the status of the state, saying that amendments to the interim constitution are part of an “evolutionary process”.

In an interview with a digital media channel, Gillani said that reports about changing the status of AJK are “fabricated and contrary to facts”, saying any constitutional amendment would be brought through the Legislative Assembly.

Gillani questioned the purpose of making such statements, saying Azad Kashmir was already facing a difficult situation.

He said “baseless and false propaganda was spreading about the status of the state” and stressed that any amendment would be taken up through the assembly.

Referring to previous constitutional changes, the Prime Minister said amendments after the 13th Amendment, including the 14th and 15th, were part of an evolutionary process.

Prime Minister further reaffirmed that his government was committed to protecting the interests of the state.
