ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Heavy rain thunderstorm has lashed Islamabad as the last spell of monsoon rains in Pakistan is likely to begin today, with the Meteorological Department predicting strong winds, thunderstorms and heavy rain in different parts of the country.
According to the Meteorological Department, westerly winds have entered Pakistan, due to which a new series of rains may start after this afternoon. Heavy rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas.
Rain has also been forecast in the upper areas of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, including Murree and Galiat. The weather is expected to become colder and cooler in the mountainous areas due to the rains.
The Meteorological Department says that heavy rain may also occur in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Peshawar, Nowshera, Abbottabad and Mansehra.
Rain with strong winds and thunderstorms has been predicted in various areas of Punjab, including Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Sialkot and Gujrat.
On the other hand, the weather is likely to remain hot in most districts of Sindh and Balochistan; however, the weather in the coastal areas may remain partly cloudy.
The Meteorological Department has directed the citizens and relevant institutions to be cautious and warned that this series of rains may continue till September 6. There is also a risk of landslides due to heavy rain in the upper and mountainous areas.

The authorities have directed the relevant institutions to remain alert and take precautionary measures in view of the possible situation.
