NEW YORK (Kashmir English): Hania Amir has been appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for Women for Pakistan.
In a statement issued on the social networking website Instagram, the United Nations Women Pakistan said that UN Women Pakistan welcomes Hania Amir as a Goodwill Ambassador.
The statement said that the renowned actress Hania Amir will use her platform to be a powerful voice, raise awareness, and inspire women and girls across Pakistan.
The statement said that together we will work for a future where every woman and girl can express their full potential, free from violence, discrimination and unequal treatment.

Hania Amir is the second Pakistani to receive this honor, after Muneeb Mazari was appointed as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in 2015.
She is the third woman and fourth person overall in South Asia, where, apart from Mazari, former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and Bollywood filmmaker and actor Farhan Akhtar are also included in this list.
Among the women’s goodwill ambassadors at the global level, famous Hollywood actresses Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman and Anne Hathaway have been given this honor.
Several Pakistani personalities have also been appointed as goodwill ambassadors in other UN agencies, including famous actor Fawad Khan for the United Nations Development Program, and Shahzad Roy for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Pakistani actresses Mahira Khan and Saba Qamar are also included in this list of goodwill ambassadors, who were appointed ambassadors for the United Nations Refugee Agency and the children’s agency UNICEF, respectively.
