WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): US President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, for a second round of talks to end the Ukraine war.
Donald Trump made the announcement on his social media website Truth Social on Thursday.
He said that he had a detailed telephone conversation with Putin, which he said was very positive.
Donald Trump said that the two leaders have agreed to a meeting of their top advisers next week, the location of which will be determined later.
The US delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, after which Trump and Putin will formally meet in Budapest.
In his statement, Trump said, “President Putin and I have agreed that we will meet in Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.”
The former president said that significant progress had been made during the telephone conversation and that he hoped that these talks would prove to be a strong step towards peace.
It should be noted that Donald Trump and Putin had previously met in the US state of Alaska in August, but the talks did not reach any clear conclusion at that time.
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the White House on Friday, where the Trump administration is considering providing Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range missiles. If this decision is approved, it would mark a new phase of US support for Ukraine.
