ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officer, Group Captain Asim, was shot dead after intervening to help a woman during a suspected abduction attempt on Ninth Avenue, according to police.
Police said Group Captain Asim was passing through Ninth Avenue when he noticed a woman getting off a motorcycle while the rider was trying to pull and force her away.
Acting as a responsible citizen, he turned his vehicle around and stopped near the motorcycle. The woman reportedly ran toward his vehicle in an attempt to seek safety.
According to investigators, the suspect, identified as Saad, allegedly began arguing with Group Captain Asim before opening fire. The officer sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to them.
The suspect fled the scene following the shooting. Police said the woman informed investigators that the accused was her office colleague, who had offered to give her a ride to work.
However, she alleged that he attempted to change the route and take her elsewhere against her will, prompting her to resist. She told police that Group Captain Asim intervened in time and helped protect her.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an operation to arrest the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing. Group Captain Asim is survived by his widow, a daughter, and a son.
His death has prompted widespread condolences and tributes across the country. Many people have remembered him as a courageous officer who lost his life while trying to protect a woman in distress. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
