ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Foreign Office on Wednesday summoned the US charge d’affaires in Islamabad and lodged a “strong demarche” over factually incorrect remarks by the US ambassador to India regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir during his visit to the Indian illegally occupied region.
According to the Foreign Office statement, Islamabad strongly “condemned and categorically rejected” the characterisation of Jammu and Kashmir as a part of India by US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor.
“It was underscored that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory, awaiting final disposition in accordance with the relevant UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,” it stated.

The FO further highlighted that the irresponsible statement by the US envoy negated the long-standing and well-documented position of the United States on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and also “ran contrary to the United States’ commitment to the supremacy of international law and the UN Charter”.
“While appreciating President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate between India and Pakistan to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in the aftermath of Marka-e-Haq, the US side was urged to ensure that its public statements remain consistent with the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir,” the FO concluded.
Earlier Wednesday, during a visit to Srinagar, US Ambassador to India Gor had said that Jammu and Kashmir is an important part of India.
The visit was the first by an American ambassador since 2018 to Jammu and Kashmir, where Gor met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Trump, in July 2019 and after the May 2025 conflict between India and Pakistan, offered to mediate the nuclear-armed rivals on the Kashmir dispute.
