MIRPUR (Kashmir English): A protest organized by the Joint Awamu Action Committee (JAAC) at Amb Chowk in Dadyal turned violent when police moved to disperse the gathering, resulting in an exchange of fire that left one police officer injured and one protester dead.
According to initial reports, around 200 to 300 police personnel reached the protest site to disperse the crowd. During the operation, some protesters allegedly opened fire on law enforcement officials. Police responded with aerial firing in an attempt to disperse the demonstrators.
During the clash, an Intelligence Bureau (IB) inspector, identified as Umar, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was immediately shifted to DHQ Hospital Dadyal, where his condition was reported to be stable.
Officials said that one of the protesters allegedly involved in firing at police was killed during the incident. The body was shifted to DHQ Hospital and taken into police custody for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, a separate pro-peace march organized by Pro-Pak OSU was held in Mirpur. The event reportedly attracted between 800 and 1,000 participants. Attendees strongly condemned the activities attributed to JAAC and voiced support for peace, stability, and the rule of law in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities are monitoring the situation, while further investigations into the Dadyal incident are underway.
