ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has approved the printing of new money notes with new designs after the cabinet gave its official go-ahead.
The banknotes of Rs. 100, Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000, and Rs. 5,000 denominations will be designed from scratch. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which took place on Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s House.
In the design process of the new notes, state-of-the-art international standards will be followed, and the engagement of global experts will be sought. The new notes will comprise security threads that are difficult to break, thus making the counterfeiters’ task very hard.
The new notes will depict Pakistan’s cultural and natural diversity as well as its historical sites through the art. The themes of women’s roles in national development and climate change will also be used.
To this end, a special cabinet committee was set up by the cabinet to review the proposed currency notes before their final issuance. The cabinet also issued an instruction during the meeting to the effect that the draft Private Hajj Policy 2027–2030 be sent back to the Hajj Policy Committee for further consideration.
The draft elaborates on registration and third-party verification of private Hajj operator companies. The cabinet also endorsed decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Energy in its meeting held on December 24, 2025, and by the Economic Coordination Committee in its meeting on December 23, 2025.
