Govt cuts profit rates on key National Savings schemes

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has reduced the profit rates for key National Savings schemes, specifically Defense Savings Certificates and Behbood Savings Certificates, and has issued new rates effective September 2026.

According to the details, the Government of Pakistan has announced a reduction in profit rates for the popular National Savings schemes: Defense Savings Certificates and Behbood Savings Certificates.

New rates have been issued for September 2026. Under the new profit structure, the tenure for Defense Savings Certificates is set at 10 years; an investment of Rs. 100,000 will yield Rs. 300,000 upon maturity.

For an investment of Rs. 100,000, the accumulated amount is set at Rs. 110,000 for the first year, Rs. 121,000 for the second, Rs. 133,000 for the third, Rs. 147,000 for the fourth, and Rs. 163,000 for the fifth year.

In the subsequent years, the returns on a Rs. 100,000 investment will be Rs. 182,000 in the sixth year, Rs. 204,000 in the seventh, Rs. 230,000 in the eighth, and Rs. 262,000 in the ninth year, reaching Rs. 300,000 upon maturity in the tenth year.

Meanwhile, the profit rate for Behbood Savings Certificates has also been reduced. Under the new rate, an investment of Rs. 100,000 will yield a monthly profit of Rs. 1,050, which translates to an annual return of 12.60 percent.

Behbood Savings Certificates were introduced specifically to cater to the financial needs of widows and senior citizens.
