KARACHI (Kashmir English): Former Pakistan Test cricketer Basit Ali has reportedly suffered a heart attack and is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.
The 55-year-old former batsman was taken to the hospital after complaining about chest pains, during which doctors conducted angioplasty on him.
Sources close to Basit Ali told this correspondent that the 55-year-old former Test cricketer had complained about chest pains and was then rushed to a hospital in Karachi, where he received urgent treatment.
The medical tests done on the former batsman showed that he had suffered from a heart attack.
As part of the treatment, doctors operated on him to perform angioplasty. The medical operation proved successful, and Basit is now reportedly recovering well.
He is currently undergoing further medical observation at the hospital for two more days. If there is further improvement in his health, he will soon be discharged from the hospital.
It is pertinent to mention here that Basit Ali made his debut in international cricket for Pakistan when he played his first Test match for Pakistan against the West Indies in April 1993 in Port of Spain.
With his ability to play aggressive shots as a middle-order right-handed batsman, he played 19 Tests and 50 One Day Internationals for Pakistan until 1996, when he lost favor with the selectors.
