ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has sought assistance from the provinces for security in Islamabad.
On behalf of the federal government, the Cabinet Secretary wrote to the provincial governments of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, requesting a total of 23,500 police personnel from the three provinces.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification regarding the availability and deployment of these police personnel.
The notification specifies that 15,000 personnel are to be sent from Punjab, 8,000 from Sindh, and 500 from Balochistan. The three provinces are required to deploy these police personnel to Islamabad by September 20.
Punjab govt imposes Section 144 across province
The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in view of the law and order situation across the province and possible threats of terrorism.
According to the notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, a ban has been imposed on gatherings of 5 or more people, rallies, meetings, processions, sit-ins and demonstrations in public places, roads, highways and open spaces across the province.
According to the notification, law enforcement and intelligence agencies have received reports regarding possible threats of terrorism during public gatherings in Punjab.
Under Section 144, marriage ceremonies, funeral prayers, burials and worship in mosques and churches have been exempted from the ban, while the official duties of government and semi-government institutions and court proceedings will also be exempted from the ban.
