ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Federal budget 2025-26 for the upcoming fiscal year will be presented in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
The Lower House is scheduled to meet at the Parliament House in Islamabad at 5 PM, followed by a session of the Upper House at 6 PM the same day.
Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb will deliver the budget speech in the National Assembly.
Afterwards, he will place a copy of the Finance Bill, 2025, containing the Annual Budget Statement, before the Senate.
Earlier, the finance minister released the Economic Survey for the fiscal year 2024–25. This pre-budget document offers the government’s overview of the country’s economic progress.
While speaking at a press conference on Monday, the finance minister highlighted a major cut in the policy rate, from 22 per cent to 11 per cent, saying it signals growing economic stability.
“We are moving towards stability,” he said, while also praising the positive steps taken by the caretaker government.
He shared that Pakistan’s GDP grew by 2.7 per cent during the current fiscal year, a sharp recovery from the negative growth recorded in 2023.
The minister also mentioned a noticeable rise in the country’s foreign exchange reserves and underlined the importance of ongoing structural reforms, which he described as efforts to change the economy’s “DNA”.
The Federal budget 2025-26 for the next financial year will be presented today, June 10, by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in the National Assembly, and is expected to be passed on June 26 and 27.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has approved the full schedule for the Federal budget 2025-26 session. According to the plan, the National Assembly will not hold any sittings on June 11 and 12.
Discussions on the federal budget will begin on June 13 and continue until June 21.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb will wrap up the general debate on June 21. The following day, June 23, the assembly will hold discussions on the key expenditures set for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
On June 24 and 25, members will take part in debate and voting on demands for grants and any proposed cuts. The Finance Bill is scheduled to be passed on June 26.
The next day, June 27, will be reserved for debate and voting on supplementary grants and other related matters.
