ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has amended the Solar Regulations 2026, introducing a major relief for small solar users.
According to a notification issued by Nepra, solar prosumers installing systems below 25 kilowatts (kW) will no longer be required to obtain prior approval from the authority.
Under the revised regulations, the relevant electricity distribution company (DISCO) will have authority to grant approvals directly.
Officials said that the amendment adds the word “approval” to the regulations along with permission. The amendments make certain requirements conditional on their applicability.
The changes are aimed at shifting decision-making to the distribution company level, reducing procedural delays and facilitating easier adoption of distributed power generation.
Nepra officials added that the amendment aims to help Pakistan transition to clean energy. The move will promote rooftop solar systems and other small-scale renewable energy.
