NEELUM VALLEY (Kashmir English): Senior PML-N leader Shafiq Inquilabi has strongly warned the timber mafia and forest department that no further compromise on deforestation in Neelum Valley will be tolerated. He stated that the public will now chase those involved in illegal tree-cutting and smuggling.

IInquilabi was greatly troubled by the loss of beautiful green forests in the area. He emphasized that Neelum Valley’s natural beauty is unique because of its forests which must be protected immediately.

Rapid deforestation in Neelum Valley is a risk to both the environment and the tourism industry, as the valley is best known for its greenery.

The beautiful, thick forests of Neelum Valley are being cut down recklessly by the timber mafia. If we want to preserve the beauty of Neelum, we must stop cutting down trees.

Inquilabi pointed out a stark contrast across the Line of Control (LoC), where, he noted, forests are better maintained and protected. “Look at the other side of the LoC, they have managed to preserve their forests well. Meanwhile, we as Muslims are busy cutting them day and night.”

He underlined that the valley’s scenic value and tourist appeal are deeply rooted in its forests. “When these forests are gone, tourists will stop coming from Neelum to Taobat. The secret behind Neelum Valley’s beauty and tourism is its forests.”

Addressing those responsible, he sent a strong message to the timber mafia: “We want to make it clear to the forest mafia to stop cutting trees. Otherwise, the people of Neelum Valley and we will come out on the roads against you.”

He concluded by calling forest protection a shared responsibility. “Preventing deforestation in Neelum Valley is a duty for all of us. Save the forests, and secure our lives.”

As the environmental awareness regarding deforestation in Neelum Valley grows, the frustration among people is also heightened.

As deforestation in Neelum Valley goes unchecked, voices like Shafiq Inquilabi are urging immediate action, hoping to preserve the environment for both the region’s natural heritage and sustain tourism.
