ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday said that his party is now in a position to form and take charge of the government in Azad Kashmir.

Addressing the media after the AJK Parliamentary Party meeting, Bhutto claimed that the PPP had won the last AJK elections, despite facing a wide range of challenges.

However, the PPP’s victory in AJK was turned into a defeat, he said, adding that despite the loss, the PPP continued to represent the people everywhere.

Furthermore, he added that the remaining term of the AJK government “will be a test for the PPP”. The problems are political, and the solution to them lies with the PPP, he claimed.

Upon answering a question about the nominee’s name, the former foreign minister said, “Don’t worry, announcement of the Prime Minister in Azad Kashmir will be made from Kashmir, not Islamabad.”

Bilawal Bhutto said that we understand that new elections should be held before the time left for this assembly.

“While representing the people, efforts will be made to fulfill the demands. I promise the people that we will not disappoint you,” he said.

Moreover, he emphasised that his party was committed to resolving Kashmir’s issues.

“During my tenure as foreign minister, I highlighted the Kashmir issue both domestically and internationally,” he said, adding that for three generations, the PPP has fought Kashmir’s cause across the world.

The remarks came after he chaired the PPP Azad Jammu and Kashmir Parliamentary Party meeting at Zardari House in Islamabad. PPP’s in-charge of Kashmir Affaris, Faryal Talpur, was also present.

The party chairman was apprised of public issues by representatives of AJK, the official statement said. The participants discussed improvements in organizational matters.

Former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and Qamar Zaman Kaira were also present.

Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Sardar Javed Ayub,  Sardar Muhammad Yaqub Khan, Mian Abdul Waheed, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, Javed Iqbal Bandhanvi, Syed Bazil Naqvi, Sardar Zia Qamar, Chaudhry Qasim Majeed, and Chaudhry Aamir Yasin, among others, attended the meeting.
